Essiac Tea is named for Rene Caisse, with Essiac (pronounced "EH-see-ak") being the her last name spelled backwards. She was a nurse from Canada, who, in the 1920s, developed her tea recipe from advice given by an Ojibwa medicine man in order to treat cancer. This tea is composed of 4 herbs, two of which (Sheep Sorrel and Burdock Root) are known to kill cancer cells. The other two herbs build the immune system and deal with detox and protecting the organs.

A wide range of health benefits, including improved immunity, better elimination, detoxification, increased appetite, and a better sense of overall health and wellbeing, among others, have been reported with the use of Essiac.

Many have recovered from diabetes or been weaned off insulin after the regular consumption of Essiac. This is because Essiac stimulates the pancreas to function properly again.

Essiac Tea is most widely used for cancer treatment and testimonies abound regarding healing of cancer due to this tea. It is considered to be a "Phase III cancer treatment," meaning it is not considered strong enough to be at the core of a "Stage IV" treatment. This does not mean, however, that it would not be an effective addition to a "Stage IV" treatment.

Essiac would not be strong enough to be used as a standalone treatment, and should be used to supplement other protocols.

You don’t need to be seriously ill to enjoy Essiac Tea – it can be taken at lower, maintenance doses too to help one stay healthy and detoxify regularly.

As far as side effects, you may experience temporary detoxification symptoms such as headaches, intestinal discomfort or perhaps a little nausea.

The ingredients and health benefits of Essiac Tea are as follows:

Rene Caisse isolated sheep sorrel as the main Essiac herb that caused regression of metastasized cancer and reduction of tumors. It has been known for over 100 years as a cancer fighting herb. It also has anti-leukemia activity. Sheep sorrel contains antioxidants, is a diuretic, and has been used to check hemorrhages.

For centuries burdock root has been regarded as an effective blood purifier that neutralizes and eliminates poisons from the body, including radiation (due to the niacin content). Burdock also supports the bladder, kidney and liver and has been said to dissolve kidney stones. It also contains an abundance of minerals, particularly iron. Studies have shown anti-tumor activity in burdock.

The inner bark of the slippery elm tree is well-known for its soothing and healing properties. It reduces inflammations such as sore throat, diarrhea and urinary problems. It contains beta-sitosterol and a polysaccharide, both of which have shown anti-cancer activity.

Turkey Rhubarb has been shown to have anti-tumor activity. It is diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and has been used extensively to relieve constipation.
